Physiognomy, also known as face reading or facial analysis, is an ancient practice of personality assessment that is found in many ancient and modern cultures, including China, India, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Morocco, Arabia, France, England, and more. In Greek, "physio" means body and "gnomy" means knowledge, so "physiognomy" therefore means "to know something from its appearance." In this context, this means the art and science of understanding which physical features are linked to which personality traits and applying that to daily life.
Physiognomy, at its most basic, simply takes something we all do unconsciously every day - that is, judging others by their appearance - and formalizes it into a proper field of study, with rules, laws, principles, theories, and studies. People practice physiognomy all the time in their daily lives - just think about how many times you've met someone and thought or said something along the lines of "He looks smart," "She looks nice," or "He seems mean?" Physiognomy is simply the act of taking that initial intuition and asking why we intuitively feel that way about someone, and then trying to ascertain which physical traits are associated with which personality traits.

As someone who has been practicing facial analysis for years, I can testify that yes, it does indeed work. I didn't even believe in it at first, but after years of consistent results and satisfaction, I have come to fully believe in it. The short and honest answer is: I don't know. All I know is that it does work. I am continually researching into facial analysis and the genetic science that may or may not underlie it, a process of researching, theorizing, and writing that you can follow me in by keeping up with our Updates and Articles page and following our Substack. My current theory is that the development of certain facial features are influenced by specific genes and hormones that also influence the development of certain personality traits. However, research into this field is as of yet ongoing.
